The Colorado Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers a variety of in-person, virtual, and on-demand workshops to help businesses improve and grow. From in-person cohorts starting at $50 to free virtual workshops, the Central Mountain SBDC has a strong lineup to help small businesses thrive.

Here are some of the events offered throughout January to help give 2024 a strong start for local businesses:

People OPs Advantage: Best Practices in Employment Law

9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11

Participants will discover insights for small business owners on hiring, firing, anti-discrimination, and legal workplace best practices. This workshop is led by the Founder of Principle Law, Nathan Lawrence.

Innovative Leadership: The Work Smart Way! How to Thrive with Less Energy, Time, and Effort

12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 16

Participants will learn to reclaim time and boost their energy and motivation by working “smarter, not harder” in the new year. This workshop is led by Jess Bonasso.

Strategic Surge: Mastering Your Business SWOT Analysis

Participants will learn about the art of SWOT (Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats) Analysis, which is a tool for strategic planning. This workshop is led by Brand Guide Founder Kristine Carey.

Marketing Power Hour: Online Store E-Commerce Best Practices and Emerging Trends

12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23

Participants will learn to maximize their online store’s potential by exploring organic SEO, effective product titling, compelling imagery, and enticing descriptions. This workshop is led by Envision Web Designers Founder Jessica Sorden.

Biz Plan 201: Mastering Growth with Lean Business Experiments

9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30

This workshop is located at the CMC Salida Campus (349 East 9th Street, Salida), Board Room 202. Currently, the location remains at the Salida campus, though it was changed to the Leadville campus for Biz Plan 101. It may be a good idea to verify the location when the time for this workshop draws nearer.

It costs $50 for the six-hour course.

This in-person cohort focuses on methodically trying new things to capitalize on growth opportunities. Participants will use experimentation frameworks to help map out a business’ biggest opportunities, identify ways to save costs, and drive success metrics. This workshop is led by Intentional Ventures Kayla Doan.

People Ops: Communication and Feedback Styles Part 1

12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 31

Participants will learn to enhance their communication techniques for managing teams or communicating with supervisors or clients. This workshop is led by HR Systems Strategist Consulting Founder Otisa Eads.
