The Salida School District is reminding residents and visitors that it is important to watch for school-aged children as they return to school starting this week. Salida Schools will run buses this Friday, August 11 for 5th and 9th grade students for orientation at Salida Middle School (SMS) and Salida High School  (SHS).

The message from the school district, “We are excited to see our students and their families as we get started with the new school year.”

Colorado State Patrol has initiated the Look Again, CO campaign encouraging drivers to stay alert and watch for pedestrians on foot, and for riders on bicycles. Learn more about that campaign here.  The National Safety Council also offers some tips on how to prepare for the return to school and how to share the road with students.

Also, note that there are changes to bus routes 3, 4 and 6 (but not to route 5). Parents can visit the school district website for the updated routes, and see the changes below:

Route 3 will no longer run on County Road 220. Instead, stops will be at the Maysville Firehouse and then back to Highway 50 where the bus will stop at the intersection of the highway and County Road 220.

Route 4 will pick up at Salida Ridge and Magpie Apartments on Vandaveer Road.

Route 6 will no longer be going to Vandaveer Road.

Bus stop times for the year will remain the same as last year. If you have any questions about routes, bus stops, or pick up/drop off times please contact Evalyn Parks at eparks@salidaschools.org or 719-530-5231.

Student bus riders will bring home a Rules and Regulations form that must be signed by their parents/guardians.

Buses will run this Friday, August 11 for orientation days for 5th graders and 9th graders at SMS and SHS. The bus will run its normal schedule in the morning, and then pick up students at noon to begin end-of-day routes at that time. New students at The Crest Academy will need to coordinate their own transportation that day, as their schedule does not match the bus schedule. Longfellow Elementary School is hosting their meet and greet from 9 a.m. to-11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the 11th, and parents will need to provide transportation for that event.

Buses begin their full schedules on Monday, August 14, 2023.
