In a reversal of a previous announcement saying that the monoclonal antibody pilot treatment program (mAb) would end Dec. 12, Chaffee County EMS (CCEMS), in partnership with Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) and Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) will continue to offer the program on the HRRMC campus Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to  3:00 p.m. until further notice.

As HRRMC prepared for the virus, initial testing included a ‘triage tent’ outside the hospital Emergency Room. This day – March 17th, 2020 was one of the last photos before the initial lockdown. The sun about to set provided some highlight over the tent ….. little did we know the sun was about to set on many aspects of our lives too. Photo by Dan Smith.

The mAb treatments being offered, pending availability, are bamlanivimab/etesevimab, REGEN-COV (casirivimab/imdevimab) and sotrovimab. All three COVID-19 mAb treatments are currently under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and have been shown to significantly reduce risk of hospitalization and death in COVID-positive individuals.

It should be noted that mAb treatment is not a substitute for vaccination against COVID-19.

Administration of the mAb treatment will take place in the blue tent outside of HRRMC’s Emergency Department. Individuals will not enter the hospital or the Emergency Department at any time for outpatient mAb treatment.

All patients interested will approach HRRMC through the main entrance on Hwy. 291, and immediately turn right, parking in designated parking spaces near the blue tent before the ambulance bay. Once parked, call 719-207-5734 for further instructions. There is no fee for this treatment.

No physician’s order nor appointment is required to receive treatment; patients must self-screen for eligibility. Additionally, all patients will be assessed prior to receiving any treatment.

Monoclonal antibody treatment is also available by appointment at HRRMC Buena Vista Health Center 719-395-9048 and HRRMC Custer County Health Center 719-783-2380. Please contact the clinics for more information.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, more changes may occur. Please check HRRMC.com for eligibility and the latest updates or call 719-530-2217.
