Don’t look now, but the Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has decided to have some fun with voter buttons ahead of the 2024 General Election coming up in November. Chaffee Clerk and Recorder Lori Mitchell’s team has created two contests — the Future Voter contest and the I-voted sticker contest — to select the winning designs for the stickers that are given out to voters after we turn in our ballots.

“We want to encourage some civic engagement and thought this would be a fun way to do it,” said Mitchell. “Now we’re past the primary and we’re starting to get in contest entries.”

In this case, the “Future Voter” segment of the contest is open to children and youth ages 17 and under, to introduce them to this voting right, which is at the center of our democracy.

Asked what prompted the sticker design idea, Mitchell responded, “A lot of counties all over the country do something like this. I’ve always wanted to and thought this year is a great year to contact with more young folks and encourage civic engagement in general.”
