The 2024 graduates of Salida High School will march into the Spartan Stadium to “Pomp and Circumstance” promptly at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, marking the conclusion of their educational years with the Salida School District.

No doubt the stage will be decorated with their class flower; purple and white anemones. The Board of Education and Administration will take their places on the stage. The 74 graduates will take their seats, and the process of honoring 12 years of academic effort will begin. Class President Max Hunt will lead off student comments. Dr. David Blackburn will present the graduates to the community. The newly-minted graduates will recess to the tune of “Glorious.”

Of course, as parents and students know, public school is not just its academic focus. It includes athletics and the arts, social interaction, and community service. It includes wins and losses and joy and heartache and effort. These days students, parents, teachers, and counselors tell us there is more stress than ever, which means our students need the support of their community more than ever.

Most of all those years have been years of learning — always learning — from experiences of all kinds.  Students grow up. Another successful school year wraps up. It’s the way it is supposed to be.
