On July 1, Ark Valley Voice will kick off its first-ever “Christmas in July” giving campaign, with the goal of raising $10,000 to go toward the salaries of our working journalists.
The campaign launches at Benson’s Tavern and Beer Garden 128 North F St. Salida, begins at 4:30 p.m. with a “Christmas in July” Costume Kickoff Party. Come dressed as your version of Christmas — even if it’s flamingos in Santa hats!
The 30-day fundraising effort will highlight the critical state of journalism, the importance of local news reporting, and the role of the news media in protecting our democracy. It is also an outright request for support.
It’s no secret that the pandemic was a blow to the national as well as the local economy. Like everyone else, we limped through the shutdowns, working from our home offices, and living on Zoom meetings. During that time we authored more than 2,000 news stories, publishing six days a week to keep you, the public informed on issues that affect all our lives.
But while other businesses have come roaring back, news advertising has not. There might be a variety of reasons for that, but as a free publication, we depend on advertising and donations to keep the lights on and the journalists paid. In fact, 98 percent of our income goes to the wages of working journalists.
We hope our more than 30,000 readers can help Ark Valley Voice reach our $10,000 goal to support local journalism! Maybe we can even surpass that — which would surely help assure that the mission of Ark Valley Voice — to ensure that truth has a voice — will not go unmet.
