The organization known as Wild Connections has organized two hikes for this coming weekend. The hikes celebrate both the 54th anniversary of Earth Day and the new BLM Public Lands Rule, which published in the federal registry on Wednesday, April 24.

A Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wildlands Outing has been announced for 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 to Red Canyon and Garden Park

The moderate hike at Red Canyon, north of Cañon City, will be approximately four miles with 400 feet of elevation gain.

Group leaders also say they will visit the dinosaur quarry at Garden Park, a mixture of public and private lands allowing recreation to coexist with protection of wildlife and paleontological resources.

Hikers will also learn about the newly created conservation and recreation designations in this area from BLM’s recently completed Eastern Colorado Resource Management Plan.

For more information or to register for the hike, contact Jim Lockhart at 719-385-0045 or jlock@datawest.net.
