The Salida School District has announced that Dr. Ben Hill, DVM has been appointed as the new at-large Director on the Salida School Board. His appointment fills the seat vacated by Jeannie Peters in May.
Dr. Hill shared his vision of success for Salida Schools, including a focus on attendance and clear goals and expectations in the classroom, as well as creating a community where kids never feel alone.
Hill’s goals for the District include safety as the priority, responsible use of technology, and setting high expectations for school leadership.
Also during the regular monthly meeting, the Board reviewed updates to the school resource officer memorandum of understanding (MOU) that details the partnership between the School District, the City of Salida, and the Salida Police Department with plans to have a final version on the agenda for approval in August.
The Board plans to host two public listening sessions in August to hear from the community before they establish their priorities for the upcoming school year. Details will be shared when dates, times and locations have been finalized.

I hope part of that high expectations of school leadership we don’t allow a struggling leader who couldn’t do another year in the building to advance to the Golden Dome, create a position only to increase their Highest Average Salary. That’s some ole school politics.
