An announcement from the Boys and Girls Clubs was released to the press on Monday March 16 that the clubs in Chaffee County have been closed for public safety and will be closed through March 29.

“At the Boys and Girls Clubs, protecting our kids is our top priority.  Regardless of this current health concern or any circumstances, we are committed to safety as our number one priority,” said the press release from Chaffee County Boys and Girls Clubs executive Director Brian Beaulieu and Board Chair Duncan Campbell.

The announcement from Beaulieu and Campbell continued, “While circumstances change, our mission does not.  The decision to close is not an easy one, but we believe the right one, as we will never lose focusing on safety and the well-being of our members and staff.  At the Boys and Girls Clubs, we share a deep compassion for anyone that is impacted by the virus.  We will continue conversations with local officials, health professionals and others to see how BGCCC can assist our community in these unprecedented times, even as our programming is temporarily halted.”

The Boys and Girls Club Chaffee County (BGCCC) policy dictates that they follow the lead of the local school districts: when school is closed for safety reasons, Boys and Girls Clubs closes for safety reasons. Both clubs located in Chaffee County, located in Buena Vista and Salida, will be closed for youth development programming from March 16th through March 29th. They Boys and Girls Club said that if schools reopen as planned on Monday March 30, that the Clubs will open as well.

“Please know that BGCCC remains committed to ensuring the continuity and support of our kids and families in Chaffee County,” added Campbell.  “As the most vital youth development organization, we look forward to reopening our Clubs as soon as possible, as soon as it is safe to do so.”
