The Buena Vista Public Library maintains its busy programming schedule through November. The library will be closed on November 10 for Veterans Day. The library will close at 4:00 p.m. on November 22 and remain closed on November 23 and 24 for Thanksgiving.

Check out upcoming events below. All events are located at the Buena Vista Public Library (131 Linderman Avenue) except the virtual author talks, which are available online.

CPR and First Aid Training

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4

The Chaffee County Fire Department leads this free training where participants earn their CPR and First Aid certification from the American Heart Association. Attendees should bring their own lunch. Snacks are provided.

There is a limit of nine people. The class is currently full but interested parties can email kmartinez@buenavistalibrary.org to be added to the waitlist.

Kids Into Learning Things (KILT)

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Tuesday, November 7

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Tuesday, November 21

Elementary students are invited to experience STEAM, team-building challenges, and the fine arts in a collaborative environment. The event ends with sharing favorite board and card games.

Make Plaster Birds

12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 8

Participants learn to make and decorate bird sculptures using plaster and acrylic paint.

Breaking the Age Code – Book Club

5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8

Participants will discuss aging well and Breaking the Age Code by Dr. Becca Levy.

Story Time

10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 17

Introduce young children to a love of reading and libraries with stories, process art activities, songs, and games that support early literacy.

Health and Relaxation

Pilates/Meditation

12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 7

Pair Pilates with meditation to deepen the mind and body connection. Sessions begin with breathwork and guided meditation, then move into mat Pilates to improve strength and flexibility. Participants should bring their own mat.

Qigon

5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7

Participants work to improve health and well-being with exercises to optimize energy within the body, mind, and spirit.

Bilingual Yoga.

Participants seek to calm their minds through movement. Guidance will be provided in English and Spanish.

Participants develop coding skills at their own pace. Anyone can drop in to get ideas and one-on-one expert help. Those interested in attending can bring their own device or use one that is provided.

Get Good with Money and Reach Your Financial Goals with Tiffany “The Budgetnista” Aliche

12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9

Author Tiffany Aliche introduces action items for ten important financial building blocks, including:

      • Ins and outs of budgeting.
      • Investing.
      • Credit rating.
      • Estate planning.
      • Getting insurance.
      • Getting the flow of money automated.

According to the library’s event page, this is “a masterclass in taking charge of your money, ‘The Budgetnista’ has what every reader needs to achieve financial savvy, stability, and security.”
