The Chaffee Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) held a public hearing during its December 12, 2023 regular meeting to receive an update to revision work on the Chaffee County Land Use Code (LUC).

The Building Department is doing final adjustments to the proposed LUC Amendment language for Module 2 with a proposed approval timeline of April, 2024.

The department addressed a question raised during their previous LUC update; “What are the benefits to Chaffee residents for encouraging new construction to make these upgrades — to make them ready to install new electric appliances?”

Its answer: “The main benefit is for future homes and business transitions. We know it’s coming — so to start out with electric infrastructure [in a new home or business] rather than having to install it on the back end will save future investment and it avoided the potential for fees on carbon emissions.”

The BoCC addressed the reallocation of a portion of the 2023 Lodging tax fund to the Chaffee Housing Authority (CHA).  Staff was directed to prepare an agreement that will make a $350,000 2024 allocation to the CHA. The draft agreement will outline specific areas to which the funds will be directed. They are expected to include, but not be limited to permanent escrow for debt service on Janes Place, operations funding, and consultant time on feasibility studies for upcoming project support.

In its final public act of the session, the BoCC unanimously approved some fund adjustments on the 2023 budget, as laid out by Chaffee Finance Director Dan Short. “We are amending the budget for the things that changed during the year across 14 different fund balances,” explained Short. I won’t read it all [it is in the meeting packet].

The next regular meeting of the Chaffee BoCC is set for January 2, 2024.
