Buena Vista (BV) has a full slate of events scheduled for Tuesday, July 4 beginning with the annual Optimist Club Pancake Breakfast at 7:00 a.m. in Columbine Park and ending with the traditional fireworks starting at dusk. There will be plenty of things to enjoy for locals and visitors alike.

Schedule of Events for Tuesday, July 4

Optimist Club Pancake Breakfast

7:00 a.m. at Columbine Park (just south of the stoplight in downtown Buena Vista behind K’s Dairy Delight).

Festival in the Park

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at McPhelemy Park

The festival includes kids’ games, face painting, live music, a beer garden, food trucks, and an artisan market. Vendor setup will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Vendor clean-up is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Vendors must bring their own 10′ x 10′ tent. Vendor registration is available online here and starts at $140.

Independence Day Freedom 5k and 3k

Race day registration begins at 8:00 a.m.

8:30 a.m. at East Main and South Railroad St.

Register online here to run. Pre-registration (June 5 through July 3) is $30 while Race Day Registration on July 4 is $35. All participants are entered into a raffle to win prizes and the top three male and female competitors will receive an award.

Grand prizes include an e-bike and a two-day overnight rafting trip. Other prizes include one night at The Best Western, one night at The Surf Hotel, a new grill, a $100 gift card to The View Café & Gifts, and a $100 gift card to Wesley & Rose.

Buena Vista Fourth of July Parade

8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Paul’s lot (Cedar Street and South Main, east of the Community Center)

10:00 a.m. The parade begins at River Park and travels west to Railroad.

The parade will proceed down East Main Street, and travel west from the Community Center to end at Railroad. Staging begins at the dirt lot just north of the dog parks and pump track. Participants should enter the staging area from Cedar Street. The American Legion and Chaffee County Search and Rescue will lead the procession through town. Register for the parade online here.

Duck Races at McPhelemy Park

11:30 a.m. Kids Duck Race

2:30 p.m. Main Duck Race

Main race duck adoption costs $10 for a single duck, $40 for five ducks, and $75  for 10 ducks. Kids race duck adoption costs $5 for a single duckling, $20 for 5 ducklings, and $35 for ten ducklings. Adopt ducks online here.
