Dear Editor,

Two seats on the Board of Directors for the Sangre de Cristo Electric Association [SDCEA] may be up for election in June [2024], and I’m writing in support of Sandy Long, who is running for the At Large seat. Sandy lives in Buena Vista, is a 20-year member of SDCEA, and is well qualified to serve on the SDCEA board.

I became acquainted with Sandy through my involvement with Ark Valley Energy Future, a nonprofit which advocates for clean energy in Chaffee County and on whose board Sandy previously served. I’ve heard Sandy speak about the need for increased Board transparency through two-way communication between members and the Board, and how utilizing new technologies and studying programs implemented by other cooperatives can achieve outcomes such as lower rates, efficient use of rooftop generated energy, and a better SDCEA for all. I’m impressed by her commitment to this community as well as her passion for clean energy generation and distribution.

Sandy’s qualifications include her degrees in electrical engineering and business administration, as well as many years in product management for the telecom industry. Combined with her previous experience on the board of a privately held manufacturing company, these experiences make her an outstanding candidate. If an election is to be held for this seat, ballots will be sent out on April 15. (Online voting will also be an option for SDCEA members.) I strongly encourage you to vote for Sandy Long, SDCEA Director At Large.
