In yet another sign that this is a year unlike any year any of us have experienced in a lifetime, on Wednesday afternoon, May 13 Live Nation announced that it is canceling the Seven Peaks Music Festival for 2020.

Last year the Seven Peaks festival drew more than 11,000 people to Buena Vista for a three-day musical celebration over Labor Day weekend. This year the threat of the coronavirus known as COVID-19, the lack of a vaccine and precious little in the way of public health protections, has made these large crowd events unimaginable.

This morning, the Vail Daily announced that Vail had made the decision to cancel the GoPro Mountain Games, one of the most popular of the I-70 corridor summer events. Instead, with no firm plans in place, it is going to replace them with some virtual events. At the same time, on Thursday the Vail Valley Foundation, in operation since 1981, on Thursday announced some summer programming within the boundary of the state and county public health orders, to continue its mission of bringing vitality to the community.

On Tuesday this week, both Leadville and Fairplay announced the cancellation of all major summer events.
