In a Zoom public meeting Thursday afternoon, ahead of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of service today, Monday, Jan. 17, Governor Jared Polis, Lt. Governor Diane Primavera, Senator Michael Bennet, and Serve Colorado announced an innovative economic mobility partnership.

The announcement included AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith, Executive Director of Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Jill Hunsaker Ryan, and other service community leaders.

Just this past September, Colorado allocated more than $10 million to support the placement of AmeriCorps volunteers across Colorado for a year, including several AmeriCorps volunteers in Chaffee County.

The collaborative partnership has as its goal to increase awareness and enrollment in the Child Tax Credit (CTC), Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC).

The partnership will also support financial literacy training, tax filing assistance, unified benefit enrollment, education assistance, navigating affordable housing options, increasing awareness and implementation of paid family leave, and other strategies.
