A project about people and places, known as “On the Road with The Wright,” is scheduled for July 12, 2022 at the SteamPlant in Salida. Admission for the two-part event is free and reservations are required.

The conversation is a special collaboration with the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office, The Wright sets out to rural Colorado communities to experience first-hand the relationships we hold with our landscapes, our industries, our histories, and our neighbors. This session is for outdoor recreation businesses and nonprofits, education partners, tourism partners, and economic development professionals located in Chaffee, Lake and Park Counties.

From 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. July 12, the new Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Grant (OREC) program will be presented. This newly created state funding opportunity is an economic development program to help the recovery of the state’s outdoor recreation sector.

Then from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. July 12, (preceded by a 5:30 p.m. lobby reception) a fireside chat called “Campfire Conversations” is scheduled, with Colorado’s great outdoors the backdrop for this wide-ranging series of discussions exploring untold backstories, overlooked innovations and tales of topophilia.

On the Road comes to know the real work of real Colorado communities through the stories of people and place — educators and entrepreneurs, farmers and ranchers, miners and makers, funders and frontline workers. Their stories have a way of reminding us where we have come from and where we are going. “Campfire Conversations are our way of sharing these important stories,” adds the announcement.

The event precedes the state’s Outdoor Industry Summit that will be held Sep 19 in Salida.

The announcement includes these words: All are welcome and the snacks and beer are free. To RSVP, follow this link.

Editor’s note: for those who may not have heard the expression before, Topophilia (From Greek topos “place” and -philia, “love of”) is a strong sense of place, which often becomes mixed with the sense of cultural identity among certain people, and a love of certain aspects of such a place.
