Salida Aspen Concerts to host Locals Concerts at End of February

For the third year in a row, Salida Concerts, Inc. has announced two February “Locals Concerts” featuring back-to-back days of music performed by local musicians. The performances will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25 at A Church (419 D Street) in Salida.

Tickets cost $25. They are available for advance purchase online here or from any Salida Concerts board member.

Doors open thirty minutes before each concert. Each concert will feature a short intermission.

According to a press release from Salida Concerts, Inc. Sheryl Wight, “This year’s Locals Concerts will feature the Collegiate Peaks Chorale Small Group, local artists Cathryn Bishop (vocalist), Yufen Chou (pianist), Jordan Gonzalez (vocalist), Katie Oglesby (clarinetist) and Liz Riley (vocalist). In addition to a variety of vocal and choral arrangements, these two concerts will include classical and jazz solos performed by Ms. Oglesby on clarinet and classical solos by Dr. Chou on piano.”

Each concert features the same lineup of performers. Many of these musicians are local music teachers.

Wine and beer will be available with a donation. Proceeds from the concerts will support the 2024 Salida Aspen Summer Concert Series, which is made in collaboration with Salida Concerts and the Aspen Music Festival and School.

Salida Concerts and the Aspen Music Festival have been providing their summer series of classical music to the Arkansas River Valley for over forty-five years. Salida Concerts provides the venue while Aspen provides the musicians. The series of concerts begins in early July and occur every Saturday for six weeks.

Past series performers include Joyce Yang, Anton Nel, Reneé Fleming, Edgar Meyer, Colin Davin, William Hagen, American Brass Quintet, Pacifica Quartet, Orli Shaham, the Ajax Quartet, and William Chen.
