The Salida Council for the Arts invites the community to the monthly Creative Mixer, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. tonight, Feb 8. The event will be held in the Paquette Gallery at the Salida SteamPlant, 220 West Sackett Ave.

This month’s featured artist is Cate Whittemore, with a collection of small watercolors on paper, large-scale digital prints and scrolls, and digitally printed sculptures. The theme is “Fluidity”.

Whittemore’s watercolors explore the instability and fluid logic of paint, and have inspired this collection of images celebrating color confluences and flowing forms.  A painter, swimmer and kayaker captivated by the swirls of the Arkansas River, Whittemore is grateful and happy to exhibit these works right on its banks.

Cate Whittemore is a visual artist and teacher. Her work explores self-expression, depiction, color, and meanings and insights found through creativity.

A career scenic painter  and member of The International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees, she has painted backdrops for such original Broadway hits as ‘The Book of Mormon’, and ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark’. Her use of large-scale painting methods are primary to her fine art practice.

Music will be provided by Bobby Gulley and a cash bar is also available.
