If you’re a nursing student, a scholarship out of Park County might help defer your training expenses. The Evelyn Trouth Scholarship offers up to $1,000 to the winning applicant – a student from a US accredited nursing school and preferably going into their second through fourth year of studies.

Evelyn Trouth was born to a Minnesota farm family. Her formal education began in a one-room schoolhouse in Sioux Valley and she progressed to Saint Mary’s Nursing College in Rochester, Minn. as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her career took her to top hospitals in the Twin Cities, San Diego and Denver. She worked performing basic nursing duties to caring for the terminally ill.

Following retirement, Evelyn enrolled in a secular program known as  Stephens Ministry, an outreach to individuals experiencing trauma or hardship. In honor of Evelyn and her dedication, her family and friends offer a nursing scholarship.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and complete an essay up to 750 words on “How I intend to become a nurse, better serve the patients for whom I will care and move the nursing profession forward.”

Deadline for applications is July 11 and the award will be announced before Aug. 1.
