Travelers are urged to plan ahead or arrive and drive through the gates before the designated 5:00 p.m. closure time which is anticipated to last approximately two hours.

U.S. 50 Monarch Pass, closure begins at 5:00 p.m., Fri., Feb. 9
Both eastbound and westbound motorists will encounter full stops and one extended delay of up to two hours. Motorists are urged to allow for extra travel time or seek alternate routes.

West Closure Point: Sargents (Mile Point 190), 30 miles east of Gunnison
East Closure Point: Maysville (Mile Point 210), 7 miles west of Poncha Springs

Motorists are cautioned that the closure times are approximate as the length of closures depends on various factors including adverse weather conditions, snow accumulation, and severity of avalanche danger. Control missions may be performed quickly with short road closures, or the missions may require more lengthy closures lasting several hours.
