The Walden Chamber Music Society will perform its spring concert at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10 at the SteamPlant Theater in Salida.

The Concert will be preceded with a 2:00 p.m. “Informance”. The event is free to the public, and this is an opportunity to hear a “musical map” of the works to be heard on the concert. It is presented on the piano by Walden’s Artistic Director, Jo Boatright.

The program opens with a delightful duo of violist, Matt Diekman, and cellist, Zack Reaves. Entitled “Bucolics”, the music depicts rustic, pastoral scenes. Engaging cross-rhythms and metrical contradictions become playful in the deft hands of composer Witold Lutoslawski, the singular, great 20th-century Polish composer.

Next, violinist Byron Hitchcock will join Matt Diekman and Zack Reaves for an early String Trio by one of the greatest composers, Ludwig van Beethoven.

The program ends in Andalusia, Spain with the Piano Quartet for Piano, Violin, Viola and Cello by Joaquin Turina. Close your eyes while listening to this piece and feel yourself be transported to Seville with the sound of the fandango and castanets, representing a courtship dance, all set in traditional music language.

Masks will be required for all attendees while in the SteamPlant building.
