As election day dawned, Chaffee County had received 6,056 mail ballots, putting the county at a 38 percent response rate.

The crew working at the Chaffee County Election office located in the lower level of the Chaffee County Administration Building at 104 Crestone Ave., began processing ballots at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

County residents can vote until 7:00 p.m., Nov. 2. Anyone in line at 7:00 p.m. when polls close will be allowed to cast their ballots.

  • The Salida Vote Center at the Scout Hut will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:oo p.m.
  • The Buena Vista Vote Center at the Community Center will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder Lori Mitchell announced that the office plans to post the first batch of election results between 7:00  and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening and Ark Valley Voice will do an initial update. Then the election center will need to wait for the ballots to come from Buena Vista to be processed. An update may be available sometime after 9:00 p.m.

The voting public should be aware that all results are considered unofficial. The state’s election process allows for a  period of eight days after the Nov. 2 Election Day to accept ballots from cured signatures, which might slightly change election totals. Official results will be posted once the risk-limiting audit and Canvass Board certification is completed.
