In another sign that the county, like the state of Colorado, is slowly emerging from the shutdowns necessitated by the coronavirus known as COVID-19, the Chaffee County Fairgrounds has announced that it will reopen the riding arenas to the public beginning June 1, 2020. The hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to  5 p.m. Monday- Friday.

Some restrictions will apply, particularly related to crowd size. Governor Polis’ State Executive Order limits all groups and individuals riding in arenas to ten people maximum at a time.

Fairgrounds management is requiring that all visitors follow social distancing protocols and wear face masks when interacting with Fairgrounds staff, or anyone outside their riding group. Arena riding time will be managed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Interior space in the fairgrounds meeting rooms will now be available for groups of ten or less, by contacting Miki Hodge at mhodge@chaffeecounty.org.

This reopening of the fairgrounds comes with continuing public health cautions. State orders note that events and even moderate size gatherings may contribute to the spread of COVID-19.

“We are prepared to operate safely as we navigate the COVID-19 precautions required by the state,” noted Miki Hodge, Chaffee County Fairgrounds Event Manager. “We look forward to increasing property and building access in accordance with Public Health orders as we progress into summer.”
