For the U.S., Colorado, and Chaffee County to climb out of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) has said repeatedly that vaccination is our route to herd immunity. There is an element of the population that does not want to hear the next words: science tells us that until we achieve at least 80 percent of the population having been vaccinated, life cannot get back to the normal we remember.

Having ended its mass vaccination clinics CCPH is now adapting its vaccination clinic schedule to offer both COVID-19 vaccines and standard vaccinations for the Chaffee County community.

All vaccination appointments require an advance appointment. Simply call 719-539-4510 to schedule with the CCPH clinical team. Most vaccinations are available at no cost to the public through health insurance coverage or through CCPH support for uninsured individuals.

Here’s where Chaffee County stands on COVID-19 Vaccinations as of April 19:

17,207 COVID-19 doses administered to Chaffee County residents.

57.2 percent of Chaffee County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine

45.1 percent of Chaffee County residents have been fully immunized with COVID-19 vaccine

Note: BVCC and other state correctional facilities’ vaccination data are not included in the state counts, due to being federal facilities.

Vaccinations have been an important aspect of community-wide public health efforts to guard against many types of communicable disease, long before the focus was on COVID. They continue to be a critical part of preventative care for all ages, helping people build immunity to diseases ranging from the seasonal flu to measles, and from hepatitis to COVID-19.  At this point, some of the people most at risk are the large populations of the young, who remain unvaccinated.

CCPH is encouraging community members to receive vaccinations that will help protect them against numerous preventable infectious diseases.

COVID-19 Vaccinations Open to the General Public:

  • Thursdays 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.    Moderna vaccine, beginning April 29th, ages 18 years+
  • Fridays, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.       Pfizer vaccine, beginning April 30th, ages 16 years+
  • For all recipents  of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines: COVID vaccine recipients should ensure their availability for a second dose: 28 days following the first dose for Moderna or 21 days following the first dose for Pfizer.

CCPH encourages people to coordinate small groups to receive vaccinations at the same time to help CCPH avoid vaccine waste, due to the number of doses within each vial. Groups of four people or more who schedule together will be offered a local gift card.

For standard Vaccinations (including adult, child, and travel-related vaccines):

  • Tuesday time slots April 20th-May 4: 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday time slots beginning May 11: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Thursday time slots beginning April 22: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
  • Thursday time slots beginning April 29th: 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Vaccinations are typically administered at the CCPH offices within the Touber Building at 448 East First St, Suite 137 in Salida.

For COVID vaccinations for larger groups (such as within a workplace setting), there may be an opportunity for CCPH to offer off-site mini-clinics.

Contact CCPH at 719-539-4510 to discuss options if that is of interest.
