The Chaffee County Democrats, initially indicated that they would not be announcing the party’s candidates for the two Chaffee Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) seats up for election this November until an announcement at their February 17 party fundraiser. But they have made the information available through a private Facebook site accessed by Ark Valley Voice (AVV), as well as on their public-facing website, which we take to mean that AVV is free to announce them.

According to that Facebook announcement, at least two Democratic party candidates who will vie for the seats being vacated by term-limited commissioners Keith Baker and Greg Felt are:

District 1: Gina Lucrezi

District 2: Dave Armstrong

These two candidates will be formally announced at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17 during a special event (translated – fundraiser) to be held at the Salida Scout Hut. Representative Brittany Pettersen, Colorado Speaker of the House Julie McCluskie, and the Honorable Ed Perlmutter will attend the event.

Armstrong, of Salida, is a current Colorado Mountain College Board of Directors liaison for the Salida campus. Lucrezi is a current town of Buena Vista Trustee whose term expires in 2026, and serves as Mayor Pro-Tem.

There is still time for others who may be considering a run for the BoCC to qualify, according to Chaffee Clerk and Recorder Lori Mitchell. They can petition onto the ballot, or they can go through the Chaffee County Democrat Assembly scheduled for March 9.

Ark Valley Voice will be talking with candidates for a follow-up news story regarding their experience, qualifications, and county outlook. In keeping with our Colorado Press Association Engaged Elections commitments, we’ll also be looking for readers to submit questions to us regarding your issues and concerns, and commit to pursuing the answers from the candidates.

Simply ask them in the comments section at the end of this news article. Or, if you wish to remain anonymous, that is possible, as long as you identify yourself to AVV. You may do that via an email to arkvalleyvoice@gmail.com.
