Reps. Crow, DeGette, Thompson and Colorado Senators to Hold Press Conference Ahead of the 25-Year Mark of the Columbine High School Mass Shooting

Twenty-five years is a quarter century — but even this amount of time still leaves those who survived it, those who witnessed it, those who processed it, wondering where the time has gone.

At a press conference today at 11:00 a.m. MDT Tuesday, April 16 m. (1:00 p.m. EDT) Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06), Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01), Colorado Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper, Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chair Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04), survivors of gun violence, and leaders from gun violence prevention organizations will mark 25 years since the Columbine High School mass shooting that killed 12 students and a teacher and wounded more than twenty others.

The Columbine High School massacre, was a school shooting and attempted bombing that occurred on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado. Twelfth-grade students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, murdered twelve students and one teacher; ten of the twelve students killed were in the school library. As the first mass school shooting in the nation, there were not yet public safety protocols for dealing with the situation, and emergency responders delayed entering the school for hours.

The Colorado legislative members, Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chair Rep. Thompson, survivors of gun violence, and leaders from gun violence prevention organizations will highlight inaction from Congress in the 25 years since the Columbine High School mass shooting and the need for lifesaving legislation, including an assault weapons ban.

The national-level legislators will meet in the House Triangle at the U.S. Capitol. The remarks will be livestreamed on Rep. Crow’s social media accounts: Facebook and Instagram.
