Republican candidate Nikki Haley, isn’t giving up on the presidential nomination, at least not for now. Instead, she’s hosting a Colorado rally next week. There you go, Donald Trump.

She will host the rally, set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, at Wings over the Rockies Exploration of Flight, located at 13005 Wings Way in Centennial. The two-hour event is free and open to the public but requires a reservation.

Haley is the former governor of South Carolina and served in the Trump administration as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

Haley is on record with The Associated Press that she has no plans to drop out of the Republican primary election regardless of Saturday’s result in South Carolina. “Ten days after South Carolina, another 20 states vote. I mean, this isn’t Russia,” said Haley. “We don’t want someone to go in and just get 99 percent of the vote. What is the rush? Why is everybody so panicked about me having to get out of this race?”
Haley has a point, given that she is outraising Trump in political backing and fundraising. National campaign-watchers say she’s in the fight against Trump until at least Super Tuesday That March 5 contest crosses a dozen more states, including Colorado.
Coloradans have just gotten their primary ballots. According to the Secretary of State’s Office, Colorado voters have a major independent streak. Registered voters break out as:
Unaffiliated voters     48 percent
Democrats                   27 percent
Republicans                24 percent

Trump is still the leading Republican candidate in Colorado. But according to a poll by the American Politics Research Lab at CU Boulder and the polling company YouGov he is still lagging Biden in this state. In a Biden-Trump matchup, the polls show Trump polling at 40 percent, and Biden polling at 47 percent of Colorado voters.

Then again, it’s a long time until November.
