Colorado Medicaid Users Eligible for Go-Kits, Battery Backup Systems, and “Surviving In Place” Virtual Trainings
Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) is excited to announce the CU Anschutz Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering (CIDE) is offering Emergency Go-Kits and Battery Backup Power Systems for eligible Medicaid recipients. There are also virtual trainings available to anyone about “Surviving In Place;” this course is also available in Spanish too.
“Chaffee County Public Health is excited to announce this resource for all Colorado Medicaid-eligible individuals in Chaffee County. It is crucial that every household has a Go-Kit ready in case of emergency,” said CCPH Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator Sophia Gibb. “We are also excited that CU Anschutz is offering battery backup power systems to individuals who rely on life-sustaining medical devices that run on power.”
The Go-Kits include essential items and necessary supplies that you can easily grab during an emergency. Supplies include flashlights, water bottles, and first aid kits. Recipients would put all supplies in a backpack or “Go-Bag” to easily grab in case of an emergency like a wildfire. The battery backup systems are for Colorado Medicaid members who use life-sustaining equipment, who would be at risk if their equipment is unable to be powered due to a power outage for an extended time.
Colorado Medicaid Members are invited to apply to receive a battery backup power system to support their devices during an emergency. In addition to the virtual courses offered in Spanish, there are also courses tailored to individuals living with disabilities or access or functional needs, caregivers, older adults, and English as a Second Language speakers. It is first come, first serve, while supplies last.
“We hope that any Chaffee County residents that are on Medicaid and could benefit from these resources will apply,” adds Gibb. “… CCPH director Andrea Carlstrom, and I will be presenting [a program] at the Salida Public Library from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. on March 28 on Emergency Go-Kits. Free Go-Kits will be available for those who register for the event.”
