Monarch Mountain announced this week that it has extended their season until April 11. The mountain received 28 inches of snow over the last several days with more in the forecast.

General Manager Randy Stroud explained “We had originally scheduled to close on the 4th, thinking that by then we would be more than ready to do so under the weight of pandemic stress.  The snow has revitalized us and most of you, who came last Sunday in droves.”

“It was really the first real substantial powder day of the season and it was awesome to see everyone enjoy it so much” he added.

Parking has been an issue at the ski area this season, as even with restricted ticket sales, pandemic restrictions have meant friends can’t ride together. Monarch has restricted the number of tickets sold by lot and did not restrict season pass holders.

“The bad news was because there were so few people in each vehicle, we ran out of parking spaces quickly,” said Stroud. “We have long joked about how there are no friends on a powder day, but coupled with COVID restrictions and the like, we had our hands full for sure.”

“If we had not restricted tickets that day, we would have likely seen 1,500 more skiers. Fortunately, this summer we will be expanding our parking capacity as we had planned to do last summer. There’s always room for more.”
