The launch of the children’s book will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2 at Two Dog Market. Two Dog Market is located at 603 Harrison Avenue, by the downtown stoplight in Leadville. The book shares Maestas’ adventures with her beloved dog, Bigfoot.

Bigfoot was a rescue dog who passed away in 2019. An adventurous spirit and an avid hiker, Maestas dedicated her book to the rescue; however, this isn’t Bigfoot’s first step into literature. Bigfoot was also included in M. John Fayhee’s book Colorado Mountain Dogs in 2014.

Maestas will donate half of the event’s book sales to Planned Pethood Leadville, which is a nonprofit that seeks to provide resources to help animals and their people in Leadville.

The book launch event precedes the Planned Pethood annual fundraiser Pardi Paws, which takes place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10 at FREIGHT at 320 East 9th Street in Leadville.

Pardi Paws will feature New Orleans-style entertainment and food, a cash bar, masks and beads, games, and a silent auction.

Planned Pethood’s website states, “Our mission is to prevent cruelty to animals as a result of pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs, to provide financial assistance to individuals and other nonprofit organizations to help them afford medical and dental treatment for the animals in their care, and to help families take great care of their pets though educational programs.”

Those that need assistance with pet food or supplies, can fill out an Aid Application online to request assistance from the nonprofit.

Tickets for Pardi Paws event are available at PlannedPethoodLeadville.org.
