Coming up right on the heels of FIBArk is the 30th Annual Salida ArtWalk, scheduled for June 23 through 25. The event takes place in historic downtown Salida, and it includes 15 full-time art galleries. In celebration of the arts, some two dozen downtown businesses will also be featuring art in their retail businesses.

Visitors and residents can enjoy not just this celebration of the arts, but live music and fun in Riverside Park, as well as entertainment in several of the downtown galleries. The historic downtown of Salida has a long history of encouraging the arts. In fact, it was named the very first Colorado Arts District in 2012.

Friday, June 23

Events kick off beginning at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning, June 23 when the Ark Walk Welcome center opens, handing out events listings and maps of participating businesses. Also starting up at 9:00 a.m. is a Community Arts Project in Riverside Park running until 5:00 p.m.

At 10:00 a.m. Friday morning, six Art Walk artists will hold a special exhibit in the Paquette Gallery at the SteamPlant. It runs through 4:00 p.m.

The Mini Masters Preview begins at 12:00 noon and runs to 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 23 at the SteamPlant Annex, featuring a representation of the great pieces of art on view throughout the Ark Walk setting.

Musician Dave Tipton is scheduled to play the Chapman Stick during the Mini Masters Preview. Next door in the SteamPlant Ballroom, a presentation of the history of the arts in Salida will be the topic between 12:00 noon and 4:00 p.m.

At 2:00 p.m. in the SteamPlant Theater, there will be a showing of a film about American Impressionist artist Mary  Cassatt.

Back at Riverside Park a special arts project event called “Something’s Fishy” begins at 12:00 noon. Participants will be guided through the creation of a mosaic fish by artist Anne Walker.

Running from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. there will be a local author’s book fair at the Salida Regional Library, located at 405 E Street. Visit the Tolkien Room to speak with local authors and learn about their books

Leslie Jorgensen Studios will be holding a Special Gallery Reception from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 23. It will feature music by jazz guitarist Loa, refreshments, live demos, and participation painting. The studio is now in its new location at  121 North F Street, Salida.

Saturday, June 24

9:00 a.m. — the Welcome Center and the Community Art Projects open in Riverside Park

10:00 a.m. — Salida Council for the Arts (SCA) invites people to Pollock in the Park at Riverside Park during Art Walk:  Sat June 24 from 10:oo a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Sun. June 25, from 2:oo p.m. to 5:00 p.m. SCA called it “an exciting, collaborative, radical new art experience!

Imagine yourself on an aerial rig suspended just above a 9×12 ft canvas on the grass. You’ll swing above your creation with brushes and paints in hand as you apply drips, splatters, and strokes to this wonderful community canvas. You’ll be in good hands as members of the council guide the swing for you,

The first 12 people who raise $200 or more, will get to participate. To pick up a donation packet, call Box of Bubbles at 719-539-7443.

Also at 10:00 a.m. the Six Artists Exhibit continues at the Paquette Gallery of the SteamPlant.

From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the 101st Army Band of the Colorado National Guard will present a Woodwind Quartet concert on the Magic Steve Community Stage located at Third and F. This small group specializes in small-format chamber music.

From 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. the history of art in Salida will be presented in the SteamPlant Ballroom, while from 12:o0 noon to 2:30 p.m. Jeff Koch will be playing the keyboard during the Mini Masterpiece Auction in the SteamPlant Annex, and at 2:30 p.m. the music will shift to jazz by John Lusk. The auction itself runs until 4:00 p.m. and the event includes 30th Anniversary cupcakes.

From 4:0o p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 24 the galleries and businesses featuring local artists will be open for strolling.

Beginning at 4:00 p.m. and running through 6:00 p.m. in Riverside Park, the music will be provided by the Hot Seven Dixieland Jazz – 101st Army Band, presenting a repertoire featuring music from the beginning of jazz.

At 7:00 p.m. the sounds of dance music will filter out of Riverside Park as the 30th Anniversary Dance Party gets underway.

Sunday, June 25

9:00 a.m. — the Welcome center opens in Riverside Park, as does the Community Art Project. The Paquette Gallery of six artists opens at 10:00 a.m., joined at 12:00 noon by the history of Salida artists in the SteamPlant Ballroom.
