Volunteers are needed for a homeless camp cleanup right in our backyard. It has been used for years and is in need of a major clean up. Camp users have moved on and it is time to clean up this well-used area near a wetland at the base of S Mountain in downtown Salida.
Chaffee County Public Health
The site is on private land and Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) has permission to be on the land from the owner and from the former occupants. With the help of CCPH, Franco Stucco & Stone and Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA), the team will start the clean-up from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 30.
Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves (consider double gloving), heavy shoes (no open-toed shoes or flimsy tennis shoes), water, sunscreen, and dress in layers. They will provide rakes and “grabbers”. Once registered, volunteers will be sent more information about the site location. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited.
