The Buena Vista Board of Education will hold a work session at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2022, just ahead of their regular meeting at 7:00 p.m., to discuss the district’s property goals, actions and the impacts of those actions, on Chaffee County High School (CCHS).

The district received multiple proposals for all six properties it is considering selling. It is in ongoing negotiations with selected buyers for the building and lots at 623 Main Street as well as the Nathrop School House.

The deadline for fully executed contracts was December 18, 2021. The board will discuss details of the property decisions and gather public input for their next steps.

In the board’s last meeting of 2021, held on December 13, Superintendent Lisa Yates reported that changes in the CCHS location and programming bring a number of questions. Potential options include an addition to the Sprung building or renting a space in town, in addition to using The Grove’s current space should the preschool move to a modular structure.

Yates also said that they would be meeting with CCHS students after winter break to discuss the changes and key components of the school’s structure for students and that the district’s goal is to ensure every staff member at CCHS will have a position with the district, at CCHS or otherwise.

The regular BV School Board meeting will also include a linkage with the town and local law enforcement, the principals’ reports, and a presentation on audited financials. Board of Education meetings are held at the District Administration Building, 113 N. Court Street.
