Effective immediately Chaffee County, unincorporated Chaffee County, and the Town of Buena Vista, are terminating their Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. The U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management have done the same.

This is in response to the much-needed moisture our county received over the past several days, which has reduced the risk of wildfire that had been present because of an exceptionally dry spring.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office is reminding all residents and visitors that although we have received rain and snow, everyone should still use good judgment when building and maintaining any type of fire.

Just because the risk has been reduced, does not mean that things can’t still catch fire. This being the West, things dry out quickly, and in a matter of weeks, the region could again be facing wildfire danger.
