Many people don’t realize that during the primary season and working the election schedule, that the Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder’s Office is on duty seven days a week.

So it’s no surprise that Ark Valley Voice received an election report on Sunday, June 12, in which Clerk and Recorder Lori Mitchell reported the return of another 100 ballots, for a total return of 325 ballots. That grew again on Monday, to a total of 489 ballots returned.

Election returns as of June 12:

Democratic Party Returned    157

Republican Party Returned     64

Unaffiliated                               104

Election returns as of today, June 13:

The Clerk and Recorder’s Office received 164 ballots back today, for a total return of 489 ballots.

Democratic Party Returned    223

Republican Party Returned    103

Unaffiliated                                163

It’s important to note that there isn’t a schedule of election activities as activities are done when the need arises. “We have very low returns as of now.  If candidates have watchers they can have them sit in the lobby of the courthouse and if an activity is going to take place we will alert them,” said Mitchell.

Clerk and Recorder election activities take place between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. depending on demand. The office will always communicate with the candidates with regard to specific times we know will have election activities taking place so the candidates can schedule their watchers. The candidates/or party are the bosses of the watchers and are responsible for them.
