Shortly after noon Sunday, Oct. 13, the Decker Fire jumped the Rainbow Trail in Division T on the northeast side of the fire. The fire is burning northeast into the Bear Creek area, with smoke blowing toward the northeast.

The affected areas for smoke include southeastern Chaffee and northwestern Fremont Counties, including Salida, Cleora, Wellsville, Howard, Coaldale and Cotopaxi.

Incident command has pulled the firefighters who were working in the area from their direct fire line and ordered in an air tanker to drop fire retardant on the fire line.

Zones 1 and 2 in Fremont County were already on pre-evacuation notice. The communities of Wellsville and Swissvale have been ordered on pre-evacuation notice by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office as of 1:40 p.m. Sunday.

A public meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the Howard Volunteer Fire Dept. Building located at 8274 U.S. 50 in Howard.
