Voters selected the 1986 campy cult classic “Little Shop of Horrors” to be the Monday Movie Viewer’s Choice film presentation at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 16, at the  Salida SteamPlant Theater, 220 W. Sackett Ave.

The free monthly movie series is presented by the Salida Creative District and the Partnership for Community Action, a Sellars Project Space program.

The film, starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin, focuses on a flower shop where a carnivorous plant feeds only on flesh and blood. The shop owners are torn between feeding the blood-thirsty plant and celebrating the shop’s suddenly-successful business.

Mark Monroe of Sellars Project Space said voters chose “Little Shop of Horrors” over the 1988 original “Hairspray”  for April’s presentation.

The film series was created to strengthen the community’s shared voice and provide opportunities for community members to work and play together. Monroe said the SteamPlant has one of the best sound systems in the Upper Arkansas River Valley and the most comfortable seats around.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Popcorn, concessions and a cash bar will be available.
