Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) will host its annual Cancer Walk this weekend. The event is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. this Saturday, April 27 at the HRRMC main hospital campus (1000 Rush Drive) in Salida.

The HRRMC Cancer Walk was first established in 2018.  It aims to bring community members together through their shared experiences with cancer, whether they are survivors, family members, friends, or community members, to walk together to benefit local oncology patients.

Registration for the event is available at HRRMC.com/CancerWalk. Registration costs $35 per person. Interested participants can still register through April 26 at 4:00 p.m. On April 27, day-of registration will open at 8:00 a.m. outside the Outpatient Pavilion on the HRRMC main campus.

The Cancer Walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. Before the walk begins, there will be a welcome ceremony and words from local cancer survivors. All survivors will be recognized at that time. Refreshments and breakfast burritos will be available for purchase prior to the start of the event.

Those unable to attend the in-person event, or those who wish to walk independently of the organized event, may do so anytime leading up to April 27. HRRMC will provide recommended walking trails in and around the communities of Salida, Buena Vista, Fairplay, Saguache, and Westcliffe for a variety of skill levels.

Some local recommendations include the Monarch Spur Trail and HRRMC Hospital Trail in Salida and the Bridge-to-Bridge Trail and Main Street Walk in Buena Vista.

Interested participants can call 719-530-2218 for more information.

Funds raised by the Cancer Walk benefit local HRRMC cancer patients with support items, such as wigs, lymphedema sleeves, and wellness programs.
