The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) Foundation is offering two scholarships of $2,500 each for current college students planning to pursue a career in healthcare. These scholarships have been renamed in honor of Charles J. Forster, past HRRMC Board Member and HRRMC Foundation Board Member who passed away in early 2021.

Charles J. Forster was an HRRMC Board Member from 1996 to 2016, and on the HRRMC Foundation Board from 1998 to 2014. As chairman of the HRRMC Foundation Board, Forster ensured multiple campaigns to raise money for HRRMC facilities.

The Charles J. Forster scholarships are available to any college student who lives or has lived within the Salida Hospital District, which encompasses Chaffee, western Fremont, and northern Saguache counties.

Applicants must be attending college in the fall of 2021, have a minimum college grade point average (GPA) of 3.2, and have already earned at least 24 college credits. Applicants may not be related to an HRRMC Foundation board member.

HRRMC Foundation Awards 2021 Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship

Salida High School senior Sophie Pressly has earned the 2021 Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship.

The Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship Program began in 2004. Scholarship prerequisites included declaring a major in a healthcare related field, attending public school within the Salida Hospital District; a narrative explaining why they would like to receive the award; an outline of extracurricular activities; two letters of recommendation; and a copy of the student’s high school transcript.
