The 2019 Chaffee County Fair summer tradition kicks off Thursday, July 25 for 11 days of high-country events. A fully detailed calendar of the events taking place can be found by accessing their website.

Following animal check-ins and animal judging for 4-H livestock  that is closed to the public, community events truly begin from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31 , with the livestock weigh-ins. Weighing the massive animals that will be seen throughout the week’s festivities is an activity of caution, with some young 4-Hers weighing only 80 pounds handing 1,200 pound steers.

What to expect at the event for the rest of the weekend?

Locals and visitors will find many opportunities to watch and participate in events at the Chaffee County Fair. There will be carriage rides, Stick Horse Rodeos, cattle sheep and goat judging, animal catching contests, Muttin’ Bustin’, as well as 4-H and open competition entries in the main exhibition hall. Food vendors will be on sight, as will kids entertainment including a bouncy castle.

This year Chaffee County is celebrating the addition to the fair grounds of a brand new covered grand stand , with lights and safety features the county has never had available. The grand stand should make performances by the Westernaires, and a Saturday evening live musical concert with the Wes Nickson Band, even more enjoyable. The fair will culminate with the crowning of Fair Royalty, and the presentation of Hollenbeck All-Around Belt Buckle.

An event  information booth will be set up at the event beginning July 31 to answer fair-goers questions about the Chaffee County Fair. The Chaffee County Fair isn’t just for those who live on ranches or farms and make their living for the land — the general public and town people are invited.

A map of Chaffee County Fair Grounds and their event locations can be found on their website and are also featured below.
