The city of Salida has canceled the Independence Day fireworks display, which had been scheduled for Wednesday, July 4.

City officials, including Salida Fire Chief Doug Bess, agree that current dry conditions create an unacceptable risk of fire and will look to reschedule the fireworks display when the fire danger decreases.

Salida City Council has already banned fireworks and outdoor flames until further notice, and anyone caught setting off fireworks within the city will be cited.

Multiple wildfires burning across Colorado, including nearby counties, underscore the dangers of fire during current drought conditions.
