The United States Post Office (USPS) has set a postal worker job fair running from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11, at the Post Office located at 110 Brookdale Avenue in Buena Vista.

As most of us in Chaffee County know, the USPS is badly in need of rural postal workers — including rural carriers and rural carrier associates. Over the past several months, two of the four postal offices in the county have been running short-staffed; Buena Vista and Nathrop.

The Nathrop Post Office has been operating without a computer modem to even process tracking documents or take credit cards. USPS staff from Nathrop has frequently been pulled over to Buena Vista to staff a chronically short-staffed front desk; physically shutting down the Nathrop post office for rural Nathrop residents.

The jobs have good starting wages, and benefits and the hope is to attract qualified local postal workers who already live here. Applicants are encouraged to come in person to apply. Computers and human resource assistance will be on site.
