The office of Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the death of Deputy Roy Williams, age 28, who passed away in Salida Nov. 5.

In his honor, a procession of first responder vehicles and family will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, traveling south on U.S. 24 through Buena Vista to U.S. 285. It will continue south on U.S. 285, east on Hwy 291, and then travel south on F St. in Salida. At U.S. 50 the procession will travel westbound, leaving Salida city limits.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that Williams served honorably in the United States Army and completed tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He began his career in law enforcement with the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office in January, 2018, serving honorably as a sheriff’s deputy. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he was well respected by both his peers and command.

At the end of the procession, a private funeral ceremony will then be held in Williams’ honor.

In honor of Deputy Williams, a GoFundMe account has been set up in his name. According to the Sheriff’s Office, funds from this account will be used to offset any unforeseen costs the family incurs. Many soliders returning from conflict zones face a struggle with PTSD (post traumatic stress syndrome). All other funds will be donated to assist veterans suffering from PTSD.
