During its Oct. 8 regular meeting, the Town of Buena Vista Trustees approved a partnership with the Chaffee County Community Foundation (CCCF) to manage the application process for organizations interested in applying for the Town of Buena Vista Community Grants program. The application process opened Monday, Oct. 21, and runs through Friday, Nov. 22.

The town’s decision, said trustees during the public discussion, hinged on bringing more consistency, transparency and impartiality to their community grants process. In years past, organizations and groups have requested town support throughout the year, directly to the trustees.

The town has made a point in the past of prioritizing grant applications with a focus on youth, youth services, youth development and affordable housing. The 2020 community grant process will distribute approximately $30,000 in funding to worthwhile programs and projects.

Those organizations that have a dedicated line item of support within the town’s 2020 budget will also need to apply through the portal and will receive their funding on the same timeline. That funding totals roughly $15,300 in grants, spread among the Buena Vista School District After-Prom, the Chaffee Economic Development Corporation, the Boy Scouts (flags and flag poles) and the American Legion (fireworks).

For 2020, CCCF has built an online application through which organizations can quickly and consistently request town support. CCCF will form a community grants review committee to review, rank and conduct site visits with applicants. This committee will then submit their funding recommendations to the town trustees for approval.

The timing of the application process runs through Nov. 22, at which time the applications will be reviewed. Site visits will be conducted during December and January. Funding will be awarded in February 2020. The application portal is the same portal being used by the Marijuana Excise Tax Advisory Board (METAB) and the 1A Common Ground board for their grants. Therefore, organizations that have already created a profile on the portal can use their same login to access the Town of Buena Vista Community Grants application.

The portal can also be accessed through CCCF’s website www.chaffeecommunity.org and clicking on the Grantmaking link under “What We Do.” Organizations can also use the direct portal link www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=ccgrants.

Organizations with questions, or BV residents who are interested in applying for the grant review committee, may email grants@chaffeecommunity.org.
