The brush fire was first reported around 12:30 p.m. near CR 319 and U.S. 285 according to the Chaffee County Office of Emergency Management (OEM).

The fire is burning about three miles southwest of Buena Vista, said Chaffee County OEM. Dry conditions exist in the county, and winds have been brisk for much of the day.

At this time, the pre-evacuation orders apply to an area south of the Nachtrieb-Kelly Ranch by about one to one and a half miles.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office says residents are being asked to be prepared to leave.

An evacuation center is being  set up at Clear View Community Church, 457 Rodeo Rd. in Buena Vista.
