Today, June 28, is Colorado Primary Election Day. Chaffee voters have from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to either drop their mail ballots into a Chaffee County election site or show up in person to register to vote.

The Elections Office at 104 Crestone Avenue in Salida will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. am. The Scout Hut Vote Center and the Buena Vista Vote Center will both be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Voters can vote in person, register to vote, and then vote at either vote center.

All mail ballots need to be received in a ballot box by 7:00 p.m. Postmarks do not count in primary elections. All ballots, whether they are mail ballots or in-person ballots that are issued at the vote center, are all counted together.

County Clerk Lori Mitchell reminds voters that “between 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. the county clerk’s office will upload preliminary results to the state’s election night reporting site. Then, the office will wait for the judges to bring back the ballots from Buena Vista. They usually arrive around 7:45 p.m. and we will be immediately processing them and post more results around 9:00 p.m.”
